SIMONS TOWN
For nearly 150 years the town was the South Atlantic base for the Royal Navy and only came into South African control in 1957. Established in 1743 Simons Bay took on the naval responsibilities it still enjoys today.
Visit Jubilee Square with its array of bistros, cafés and restaurants that overlook the harbour. Here we will find the bronze statue of Simons Town's most famous resident, Able Seaman Just Nuisance
THE BOULDERS (AFRICAN PENGUIN COLONY)
The Boulders is home to a colony of African Penguins. Indiscriminate harvesting of penguin eggs and uncontrolled guano scraping nearly forced this species to extinction
CAPE OF GOOD HOPE NATURE RESERVE
The reserve covers an area of 7750 hectares and has a coast line of 40 kilometres. There are over 1000 different floral species and an extraordinary wealth of large and small reptiles and mammals. At Cape Point visitors are able to walk or travel on the funicular railway to the old lighthouse erected in 1861.This lighthouse is no longer in use, but a second lighthouse built in 1914 can be seen lower down the cliff. The Cape Of Good Hope Nature Reserve is visited by some 400 000 people every year.
