GROOT CONSTANTIA ESTATE
It is said that whilst Napoleon was inprisoned on St. Helena Island he insisted on being served "Vin de Constance". The Groot Constantia wine estate still produces some some of the worlds finest wines.
The estate boasts the countries oldest manor house presented to Simon van der Stel in 1685. The estate is currently owned by the Cloete family who are the countries most prominent vintners.
DURBANVILLE WINE ROUTE
One example of the many estates in this area is the Altydgedacht estate. The cellar bulding dates back to the 18th century. The 405 ha estate has 130 ha under vineyard. 50 ha has been set aside as a Heritage Site reseve to preserve fynbos. The estate produces amongst other fine wines: Chardonnay, Gewürztraminer, Cabernet Sauvignon and Shiraz.
OSTRICH RANCH
One can see the largest birds on earth, their glorious feathers and enormous eggs. There is a great view of Table Mountain. One can experience an on- site African Village.
BLOUWBERGSTRAND COASTAL DRIVE
This is where international surfing competitions are held. On a clear day for photographers, the area offers a wonderful opportunity to stop and view Table Mountain. Weather permitting you may be able to see Robben Island from most points as well.
