Gordon's Bay was named for Captain Robert Gordon who explored the area in 1778. Gordon's Bay is an exquisite little cove situated on the slopes of the Hottentots Holland Mountains. It is home to the South African Naval College. It has a small craft harbour and is frequented by locals and visitors alike for its lovely beaches.

This is one of the oldest holiday resort towns in the Western Cape with a wonderful long white beach. A number of water sports are enjoyed here such as boating, fishing and surfing.
