MALMESBURY
Named after the Earl of Malmesbury and is the largest grain-distributing centre in Southern Africa. This area is known as the Swartland because of the deep rich colour of the soil.
WEST COAST FOSSIL PARK
Fossils were discovered after mining for phosphates.
VREDENBURG
The towns of Vredenburg and Saldanha are combined into one Municipality making it the largest municipality in South Africa. Vredenburg (town of peace) Due to fighting over a fresh water spring, previous names of this town were, Twisfontein (fountain of strife) and Prosesfontein (lawsuit fountain) We will travel through wheat fields and granite outcrops to the pretty little fishing village of Paternoster
PATERNOSTER
Paternoster ("Our Father" in Latin) derived from the prayers of shipwrecked Portuguese sailors. There is however a lot of confusion over the name. It is more than likely named after a type of fishing tackle known as the paternoster. There is now only a small lobster and fishing industry here due to quota cuts.
