GEELBEK GOLD FIELDS ENVIRONMENTAL CENTRE

There is a great variety of bird life and a hide for viewing. Between this area and Blouwberstrand one can see large tracts of Fynbos with its multitude of plants and grasses These are 70% endemic to the area. In 1845 John Montague imported hardy shrubs from Australia such as the Port Jackson Wattle and hakea to bind the soil and reclaim the land. These alien plants thrived so well and is a great threat to the environment. Wasps were introduced to kill off the alien vegetation.

BLOUWBERGSTRAND COASTAL DRIVE

This is where international surfing competitions are held. On a clear day for photographers, the area offers a wonderful opportunity to stop and view Table Mountain. Weather permitting you may be able to see Robben Island from most points as well.
